I grew up in Northern Virginia with an appreciation of art from my father who painted with oil and acrylics. He also made his own molds and poured plaster-of-paris plaques, statues, lamps, etc. He would line them up around a picnic table and my sisters and I had the after-school task of painting these items prior to homework or play.
Whether we intended to or not, art got into our blood and we learned a great deal about color, balance, contrast, etc., and we have each enjoyed one or more artistic endeavors.
I
didn’t paint on canvas until I moved to the Shenandoah Valley in 2001
and commenced taking art classes. I was immediately addicted
to oils because of their flexibility and the constructive challenges in
getting to the ‘completed painting’.
