Cindy Andes Stauff was born and raised in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. From the time she could hold a pencil or crayon, she drew. Her family learned quickly that they had to keep plenty of paper and drawing utensils available or she would find a sharp object and carve into the furniture.
With a concentration in drawing and painting, Cindy earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from James Madsion University in 1986. After graduation, she worked as an illustrator for a small, locally-owned art and drafting company. There she illustrated new inventions, and created patent art, trademarks and logos.
In
2007, Cindy took a short class in lampworking and was hooked.
At first her inspiration came from nature – such as the pattern of
ripples of ocean water over sand, or the colors in a
hummingbird. Over time a sense of “playing” has developed in
her approach to glass. She enjoys experimenting with
different colors and types of glass to see what kinds of unusual
strikes they will produce. There is no end to the
combinations of colors, shapes, and patterns.
